A Graduation Party to Remember!

A couple of years ago, my daughter, Laura (Dooley Design), was asked to plan a graduation party for four girls who were graduating from high school.

The girls were good friends and wanted to have the graduation party together at the home of one of the girl’s parents–and they wanted to utilize both the inside and outside of the home.  The girls and their moms wanted a Mexican-theme party.  So, Laura, the girls and their moms got busy and made MANY bright-colored paper flowers in all sizes.  Laura would carry out these bright colors in all of the decorations.  Black and white striped paper would be used as table runners on all of the tables, both inside and outside.

As guests entered the home, a welcome sign greeted them.

In the entry way of the home, Laura set up a table featuring four large alphabet letters–each letter representing the first letter of each girl’s name, and guests could sign the letters.  A picture of the four girls was placed in the middle of the table.  A bright-colored banner with the words “We’re Done!” was placed around the edge of the table.  Metal buckets with each girl’s name lettered on each was used so guests could leave their cards/gifts.  Pieces of paper were placed around the table with the words, “Share you best memory” printed on the top of each.  Glass jars were placed on the table so guests could put their “memory” slips in the jars.  Glass jars were also used to hold the ink pens.  The jars and metal buckets were purchased from Michaels, JoAnns and Hobby Lobby.

A taco bar was set up on the kitchen island, and one of Laura’s friends lettered the menu on the chalkboard.  Laura purchased wood crates from Michaels and placed the plates inside the crates.

The home had a large outside patio area which included a fireplace.  Laura used the fireplace area to showcase photos of the girls as they grew through the years.  Mini clothespins attached to jute twine secured the pictures on the poster board.

Every part of the patio was utilized.  Mini lights were strung around the columns and fireplace area.  One area of the patio was used for the drink station and another was used for the Sweets Table.  Bright-colored paper flowers, napkins and plastic glasses (decorated with black and white Washi tape) were placed on the “Sweet Endings to a New Beginning” table.  Black and white striped treat bags were purchased from Paper Mart so guests could take some sweet treats home with them!

Tables were set up on the patio so guests could sit while eating and visiting.  Vases of fresh flowers and votive candles tied with gold metallic ribbons were placed on each table.

A photo booth was also placed in one area of the patio so guests could have their pictures taken with the graduates.

Needless to say, the party was a hit!  It truly was a graduation party to remember!  Thanks, Laura, for sharing this project with us.  GREAT JOB!!
