40 And Fabulous!

A few months ago, my daughter’s friend was going to celebrate her 40th birthday.  Since this was a “milestone” event, her husband asked my daughter, Laura, (Dooley Design Company) to plan a surprise birthday party!  The party was held at the birthday girl’s favorite restaurant–in a separate party room.       Laura found this sign on Etsy at Southern Spruce, and because of her friend’s fun-loving, carefree personality, this sign/saying became the inspiration for the party.  Laura had the sign enlarged to 24×36 at Staples and mounted it on black poster board purchased at Dollar Tree.

Clear balloons, filled with gold glitter, decorated the dessert table.  Fantastic-looking cupcakes from Cupcake A La Mode were placed on three tiers made with boxes wrapped in white and gold paper, hot pink paper and black and white striped scrapbook paper.  A special cupcake for the guest of honor sat on the top tier.  Laura cut the “40” out of gold glitter paper and the rest of the cupcakes were topped with gold glitter flags.

The theme of the party was carried throughout the room, guest tables and buffet table.  Clear mini lights were strung along one wall, and 5×7 black and white photos, capturing the highlights of the birthday girl’s 40 years, were clipped onto the lights with large paper clips.

For the guest tables and buffet table, Laura used the roll of white paper with gold glitter dots (found at Michaels) as the table runners.  Clear glass votives and candles from Dollar Tree and fresh cut flowers from Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s gave the perfect final touch to the tables.

Needless to say, the birthday girl was very surprised, and the “fabulous” party was fabulous!  At the end of the evening, the restaurant staff even gave “kudos” to Laura, telling her they had never seen such a gorgeous party.  Way to go Laura!!!
