My sister, Patty, (Patty Carlson Mehelic) and my daughter, Laura, have been kind enough to share another decorating project with us- this time, a master bedroom redo! The client has three small children, and she wanted a place to escape and relax at the end of the day. The walls were painted SW 7031 Mega Greige (Sherwin Williams). The sitting area in the master bedroom had no personality and was not inviting.
Patty and Laura found comfortable high back chairs from Best Home Furnishings, placed a table and lamp between the chairs and added a tufted ottoman found at Target so the client could put her feet up and relax with a good book. A chenille throw and a magazine basket from Pottery Barn gave the area a finishing touch.
The backs of the bookcases in the room were painted two shades darker than the wall color to add depth and dimension.
The bookcases were styled with photos of the client’s children, books, vases and other accessories.
The existing bedding was redone as well. The client loves red and had asked Patty and Laura to incorporate the color in the bedroom.
A duvet (in shades of red, soft blue and taupe), a quilt and pillows from Pottery Barn gave the bed a new look. Mercury glass lamps also from Pottery Barn added a little “bling” to the space. The client’s existing furniture was used–the bench was recovered in an off-white fabric. Drapes from Pier 1, in a soft blue with burlap threads, frame the windows beside the bed.
A round mirror from Kirklands was added above the dresser, along with a lamp from Target and a clear glass vase from World Market which was filled with greens and floral stems. 8×10 frames hung with rope and knobs were added beside the dresser to encase photos of the client’s children.
What a gorgeous redo! Thanks to Patty and Laura for sharing this project with us. I hope this has given you some ideas for your home if you are thinking about redecorating!
I have already requested pictures of the next redo–so stay tuned!!
