A Relaxing Master Bedroom Sanctuary

My sister, Patty, (Patty Carlson Mehelic) has been kind enough to share another decorating project with me–a relaxing master bedroom sanctuary for a busy couple!

Patty’s busy clients wanted a re-do of their master bedroom so with the help of my daughter, Laura, Patty began the project of turning an outdated master bedroom in to a cozy, relaxing space.  The first order of business was to paint the bedroom–SW 7031 Mega Griege from Sherwin Williams was selected as the new paint color.

The original bed was replaced with an upholstered headboard with nail heads from Pier 1 Imports.  New bedding, pillows, quilt, shams and lamps purchased from Pottery Barn replaced the old bedding.

Patty had a custom bench made with coordinating fabric.  The bench was placed at the foot of the bed.  Gray distressed night stands were purchased from Wayfair, and canvas bins for storage were added under the night stands.

A dated dresser was replaced with a black dresser (Ashworth) from Pier 1 and also a mirror purchased from Ballard Designs was added above the dresser.  A console table for the TV was added  (purchased from Target) and baskets from World Market were added for additional storage.  A lamp and artwork from Kirklands completed the area.

The clients’ were given a comfy sitting area as well.  Patty and Laura got rid of the exercise equipment and added two upholstered chairs from Joss and Main.  They added an ottoman from Target, and drapery panels from JC Penney were purchased to frame the windows.  A custom-made candleholder (created by Patty) with magnolia leaves and battery operated candles adorns the mantel of the fireplace.  For a personal touch, monogrammed pillows from Pottery Barn were added to the chairs.

Patty and Laura framed the sitting area with photos of the couples’ children along with a custom-framed print of the couples’ wedding date and birthdays of all family members.  The frames were purchased from Pottery Barn, and the custom-framed print was purchased from Etsy.

WOW!  What a transformation, and what a great place to curl up, relax and watch TV or read a book!  Great job Patty and Laura!  Thanks for sharing!  I hope this gives you some great ideas for your next project.

P.S.  Patty and Laura also did a redo of the clients’ master bathroom, and Patty promises to send before and after pictures of that project for our next blog!
