This year Monday, February 16 is officially Presidents’ Day – the day to honor two great presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
I’m sure you remember from your history lessons about Washington (the father of our country) and the tale about him chopping down the cherry tree and not being able to tell a lie. Lincoln was referred to as “Honest Abe” and is known because of the Civil War and his assassination by John Wilkes Booth. The third Monday in February is a holiday to honor these two great presidents.
Even if the story about the cherry tree is not true, why not make a special cherry dessert for the occasion! Once again, I have found several recipes on Pinterest that sound delicious so thought I would share a couple with you!
For those of you who live in Iowa, or know family/friends residing in the state, I have to tell you about two ladies (Elaine Kuening and Amy Barton) who make the best pies ever! These ladies reside around the Newton, Iowa area. I sold their pies in my shop, and they were a hit! All of their pies are WONDERFUL, and Presidents’ Day makes me think of their delicious cherry pies! If you ever get the chance, you have to try these great pies! I am including information about Elaine and Amy in this post.
