Yes, the earth laughs in flowers–so said by Ralph Waldo Emerson. My sister, Patty, (Patty Carlson Mehelic) and her husband have the most beautiful flowers, landscaping and lawn in their neighborhood!
I asked Patty to take pictures of this year’s flowers, and she has been kind enough to do so–and I wanted to share them with you. Patty always has a color scheme each year, and this year it is red and orange. Her front porch greets you with red and orange tuberous begonias, greenery, ferns and a palm.
The bench in front of her home shows off coleus and tuberous begonias. A lantern and a fun little bird add a special touch to the bench.
On one side of the garage a large pot containing orange petunias and red and orange million bells (calabrochia) greets visitors.
Patty’s back yard and patio area also reflect this year’s red and orange color scheme. The window box on the window outside her kitchen is filled with orange, yellow and red million bells (calabrochia).
A cute turtle filled with million bells (calabrochia) and a St. Louis Cardinals flag (my brother-in-law’s favorite team) add a special touch to the area below the window box.
The pots on the patio have been planted with orange, yellow and red gerbera daisies.
The patio bench’s cushions and pillows carry out the red and orange theme. Fiber optic grasses have been planted in orange-striped containers.
The fountain around the patio is flanked by colorful crotons.
Even the trees are landscaped with flowers. The river birch tree berm has been planted with orange, red and hot pink New Guinea impatients and white alyssum.
The backyard berm contains a bench with colorful pillows. Ivy has been planted all over to cover the berm.
On the other side of the backyard the area underneath the tree has also been planted with ivy all around it plus lots and lots of impatients!
Yes, the earth does laugh in flowers at Patty’s home! It is always such a relaxing time when I visit and can sit on the patio and enjoy the beauty of all of the flowers. Thanks, Patty, for all of the great pictures–and thanks, Phil, for the many hours of watering and fertilizing all of the flowers in order to make them so beautiful.
